Panoramic walking tour of Porto Santo Stefano and visit to the Convento dei Passionari.
Full day dedicated to visit of Giglio Island: this island is the second largest in the Tuscan Archipelago and it is known for its imposing granite rocks, the suggestive medieval castle and the stunning coves and sandy beaches.
Early in the morning you will board in Porto S. Stefano and arrive in Giglio after one hour. Here you can take a tour by bus or by private taxi, stopping by at the Bay of Campese and at the Castle to discover the ancient medieval village and have lunch in one of the several restaurants that offer delicious fish menus.
In the afternoon, return to Porto S. Stefano and then back to the hotel.
Breakfast at the hotel.
The whole day will be focused on the most southern area of Maremma: we will first visit the Tarot Garden, an art park created by the contemporary Swiss artist Niki de Saint Phalle. Inspired by the work of Gaudì in Barcelona, she created steel and concrete huge sculptures covered with thousand coloured ceramics, glass and mirrors. The works reproduce the 22 figures of the Major Arcana of the Tarot.
At the end we will proceed exploring the medieval town of Capalbio and having lunch in a typical restaurant.
In the afternoon we will attend the “Butteri Show” in Alberese: the Buttero is a shepherd on horseback, a really skilled rider typical of the Tuscan and Lazio Maremma. During the second half of the 19th century, with the gradual disappearance of the Tuscan estates, the figure of Buttero went slowly down and became part of the folkloristic tradition. An important historical curiosity dates back to 1890, when the “Wild West Show”, Buffalo Bill’s Western-inspired circus, arrived in Italy: the Butteri, led by Augusto Imperiali, faced the Cow Boys and won the challenge, consecrating themselves as the representatives of a wild and genuine country that Maremma lands widely represent.
End of services.
***Alternatively, we can organize a sport fishing experience in the morning and a wine tasting in the afternoon.
